The Story Behind Winsome Orchids
On October 28, 2003, Jim Bull & Kay Lingbeck purchased the orchid greenhouse located in Independence, Minnesota. Previously, orchids have been wholesaled from this location by
Castle Rock Orchids.
Jim & Kay named their new business
Winsome Orchids, Inc.
because the word winsome means:
“to bring joy or pleasure” which is exactly what beautiful orchids do.
As an orchid grower, wholesaler, and retailer, Winsome Orchids is committed to
providing a consistent supply of superior quality orchids that will
“delight our customers”.
Kay and Jim decided to form a partnership for Winsome Orchids because they have such complimentary skills. Billysbuds.com
was established to offer collectors the many varieties of fine orchid
seedlings and breeders which were acquired with the facility, and are being
purchased through Jim's contacts around the world.
Jim has loved and grown orchids for the past 25 years. Although by profession he
was a successful consultant in the computer industry, his love for orchids led to growing and breeding premium Phalaenopsis and Cattleyas, which he sold to other orchid collectors. He has now decided to devote his passion and expertise fulltime to the orchid world by providing a wide range of varieties to the 5 state area.
With 19 years of accounting and business management experience to draw from, Kay is excited to ensure that the financial and operational aspects of Winsome Orchids will receive the same expert and professional care, as do the orchids. Kay is also heavily involved with opening new accounts and ensuring the satisfaction of our current customers.
Jim and Kay will know they are succeeding when you tell them that you are delighted with Winsome Orchids.
Then, beginning in June 2004, Jim and Kay expanded the business to provide a wide variety of Hostas for outdoor landscaping. Besides being members of the orchids societies, Jim and Kay also are members of the Minnesota Hosta Society and have a love for these wonderful and durable plants.
And the latest venture is into the orchid leasing business. We have been approached by a fabulous floral designer to partner together to offer garden pots featuring our orchids. Take a look at our photo gallery for some of the creative ideas!
